Day 5: The Spectrophotometer

(Hours: 7:30am-5:00pm)

I began my day at 7:30 today, and opened up the Technology Department and library. I started to get a routine down and I start on the bottom floor and work my way up, turning on things as I go. After that I headed to David’s office to begin some more imaging work. Colby Sawyer decided to go with Office 2010, and so it was put on the Windows XP imaged machine, after Office 2007 was uninstalled.

Weekly Reflection

Overall, my first week of my Senior Project has been great. Each day I met new people, learned new things, and came home feeling tired. This first week was short, due to the Monday off at Colby-Sawyer College, but I did log in around 33 hours. I also did a bit of work on Monday, customizing my blog, changing the layout, and figuring out a daily theme I would follow. The layout and background image turned out great, and I think my daily header image with overlaying text works well.

Day 4: Backup Successful

(Hours: 7:30am-5:00pm)

Today was a rather less eventful day that my previous ones, mainly because I wasn’t running around everywhere. Again I started my day off opening and turning on the Library and Tech department. After that I headed over to David’s office and worked on a few final aspects of my image computer. There was a problem with the sound tool bar not showing up and it ended up being a problem with the installed audio drivers. I had to get the XP install cd and ran a few command lines to get it back. Once that was fixed I restarted and booted up into Acronis.

Day 3: Dust & Servers

(Hours: 7:30am-5:00pm)

My morning began opening and turning on the Tech. Department and Library, at 7:30. Then I went right to work in the Tech Department. I started my day doing some updates and finishing up cleaning old hard drives. After that I began testing some password combinations for Colby’s new Outlook Live email system. I created a list of all the possible special characters and ran through them, testing each one individually. You wouldn’t believe how picky Outlook Live’s password system is, you can use a left bracket but don’t you dare try a right one, that won’t work.

Day 2: HP and Adobe

(Hours: 7:30am-5:00pm)

I started my day off at 7:30 again, and helped open up the Library and Tech. Department. After everything was open and turned on, I worked on some documentation for incoming students. The documentation was step-by-step instructions on things like creating accounts in their mail system, resetting passwords, and just general usage. Once I finished with testing & correcting those I went off to David Levine’s office.

Day 1: Introductions & Imaging

(Hours: 7:30am-3:00pm)

Today was my first real day of Senior Project, and it was great. I arrived at Colby Sawyer at 7:30 to open up the Library and Technology Department, as well as receive a quick tour of the building. After everything was all on and set up I spent some time at the Technology Help Desk learning the basics of some of the programs Colby-Sawyer uses to run its technology program. I learned a bit about their HelpSTAR program which is what they use to send, receive, and access technology problems, in the form of text tickets.

Day 0

Technically today was everyone else's first day of senior project, but for me it wasn't. Colby-Sawyer college had the day off today, as it was "Commencement Breather Day." Which basically means it was the the first Monday after graduation. Today the entire college, faculty and staff, had the day off and this is why I didn't really start today.I spent the day at home, working a bit on my blog template and format, as well as going over the guidelines for senior project.
Tomorrow will be the real start to my senior project and I'm very excited. I'm leaving in the morning around 7:15 and will open up the Library and Technology Department. Then I'm off to meet with David Levine, my project sponsor, and my day will begin. I'm not entirely sure what I will be working on tomorrow, but I will keep you updated, and hopefully have some pictures.
